Dye sublimation transfers are a unique form of heat transfer that differs from heat transfer vinyl. Instead of pressing a vinyl onto a garment, dye sublimation transfers infuse gas into the material, resulting in a transfer with the same texture as the fabric itself. These transfers are best suited for 100% polyester, white or light-colored garments, known as dye sublimation blanks. However, they can also be applied to 50/50 blends and cotton for a faded distressed look. While dye sublimation transfers can be used on darker garments, caution is advised to ensure visibility of the transfer.
Working with dye sublimation blanks offers a wide range of possibilities, including coasters, koozies, ornaments, photo panels, mugs, bag tags, flags, and more. Unlike heat transfer vinyl or sign vinyl, dye sublimation transfers do not add texture to these surfaces. Moreover, they can be heat applied to textured glitter HTV to add some sparkle to your designs. The best part is that no weeding is required when using full-color images like family, friends, and vacation pictures. For application, an open clam heat press is recommended, and using craft paper prevents any ink from soaking into the teflon sheet. Additionally, thermo tape can be used to hold the transfer in place since dye sublimation transfers are not adhesive.
Sublimation Transfers only work on polyester and work best on white polyester garments. They create full vibrant colors on light colored garments. For sport performance applications, where garment weight is crucial, sublimation transfers add little weight to the garment. In addition to garments, multiple additional products are compatible with sublimation transfers.
